My impression is that this book (and the other books in the series) are not meant to be "stand alone" books in the complete art of keyboard harmony and playing vocal music on the piano, or learning how to accompany.The preface notes the series should be used in connection with a regular standard piano course, which teaches all the basics.This book provides something you don't usually see in basic piano courses - exercises in harmonizing music and embellishing songs. It does include "popular" piano music (from the 1950s) and shows how to create chord patterns, right hand fillers - good stuff for the piano player learning to move beyond the printed page, or nice for the adult piano player that perhaps doesn't want the basic theory and exercises, and just wants to play something fun on the piano by teaching themselves to improvise on standard melodies.
