Casio PX-110 Privia Digital Piano Review

Casio PX-110 Privia Digital PianoAs a kid I learned how to play on a real piano for 8 years.I bought this keyboard three months ago wanting to play more and have been very satisfied so far.

Pros:
1. The tri-element ZPI casio menions makes the keys pressure sensitive so that when you play softly or loud it will sound that way.
2. Metronome comes in handy
3. Easy-to-use record button lets you playback what you just played during practice
4. Comes with a practice pianobook with 59 pieces including 3-4 of the more popular Chopin, Schubert, Schumannn, Bach, Mozart, Debussy, Beethoven pieces and some lighter ones like The Entertainer.
5. Overall great sound for this price range

Cons:
1. Having previously played mostly on a grand piano, the keys here don't feel completely weighted, but it isn't difficult to adjust.
2. 10 tones (2 grand pianos, 2 electric pianos, 1 harpsichord, 1 vibraphone, 1 pipe organ, 1 percussion organ, 1 strings/violin, 1 acoustic bass) may be limited amount for some

Casio CTK720 Music Keyboard Review

Casio CTK720 Music KeyboardI purchased this Casio portable keyboard to replace a Yamaha instrument that had apparently gotten fried inside from having used the wrong AC power adapter. Not to mention that my very old Casio MT240 has either mysteriously disappeared from my house, or, more likely, hasbeen stashed away so well that I can't find it.After searching for the missing keyboard for several weeks without any luck, I decided that I needed to buy another keyboard, since it bothered me that I had no portable instrument to take to picnics, nursing homes, Christmas gatherings, and otherwise perform on the go.

The Casio CTK720 is a very basic keyboard, primarily designed for a beginner. However, there are plenty of features to satisfy the intermediate player and the keyboard hobbyist, such as myself. It has 61 full-size keys; 32-note polyphony; auto-accompaniment, in which the player may play a chord with one finger, or use the "fingered" mode, where one must hold down all the keys in a chord in order to get any sound from the left-hand side of the keyboard.

There are many styles and voices from which to choose when playing this instrument.Plus, there is a three-step teaching system to aid the beginner keyboardist. To add to the fun, there is a microphone jack so one can sing along whileplaying or listening to the built-in songs on this keyboard. In total, there are 100 songs in this instrument, divided into two banks: a piano bank, with traditional piano songs; and a song bank, with fully orchestrated songs. There is a jack to accommodate an AC power adapter. It would probably be wise to purchase the Casio AD5R Adapter and only use 6 AA batteries when playing this instrument outdoors or in a place where there may not be an available electrical outlet.I've been able to use my original Casio AD5 Adapter, which had been used with my MT240 and other small Casio instruments that I had bought, sold, traded, or just plain given away, through the years.

The Casio CTK720 has an earphone jack for private playing, and a jack to accommodate a sustain pedal, if a person should choose to use one. In my opinion, a sustain pedal definitely improves the sound when playing a portable keyboard. The playing isn't so choppy.

One of the things that appealed to me about this keyboard is that there are dedicated sliding switches to adjust the volume levels for the master, microphone, and auto-accompaniment volumes. This is reminiscent of the older Casio instruments. There is also a USB port to connect the CTK720 to a PC to download styles and other files from the Casio Web site.I haven't really done anything with that.

This keyboard does not have touch sensitivity. The piano and other voices are adequate enough, but they certainly don't compete with the more expensive instruments that I own. However, it beats my cheesy late-eighties Casio hands down, pardon the pun. If you want to improve the sound, hook the CTK720 to a small keyboard amp. I have a Crate KX15.The amplifier's 3-band equalizer and the 15 watts of power, compared to the 4 watts in this Casio, will make a big difference.

If you seriously want to study music, this is not the keyboard to buy.I bought it for pure fun, portability and ease of use; and also because it was a clearance item from another online store.I was able to get free shipping because I also purchased a gig bag in order to transport this instrument. The keyboard was only $79.00 and the gig bag was $29.99.A great price for a piano in a bag, wouldn't you say?

In summary, I wouldn't pay more than $100.00 for this keyboard. There are a lot of rhythms that I wouldn't even use.Though there are many voices, the organs and synths are pretty weak. The overall sound quality is certainly listenable, but nothing to write home about. It is simply a good basic keyboard for the budgetk-conscious person.A fun pianoone can put in a bag.

Casio WK-3800AD 76-Key Electronic Keyboard with Power Supply Review

Casio WK-3800AD 76-Key Electronic Keyboard with Power SupplyThe Casio WK3800 is a fun and very versatile keyboard with good quality onboard speakers. My previous keyboard, which I still have, is an older Yamaha PSR series. The WK3800 gives you a good deal of control and "fine tuning" for each of the preset digital voices/tones (e.g., attack/release, touch response, reverb, vibratto, resonance, octave, pan, equalizer, and other effects, which can be saved as new user tones ... and then mixed(using layer and split) onto the keyboard and saved as an entry in the register. You can monitor/record on several separate tracks of and, later, put them all together for a rich composition playback. The only downside with recording to the separate tracks is that you lose the layer/split functions during recording (a small hassle that I hope the next series of Casio keyboards will rectify). If you would like to have a layered and split recording (four tone settings used), you have to record each of the four tones separately (i.e., record yourself playing your song four times). This limitation of the record function is the only reason I did not give the Casio WK3800 4 stars out of 5, instead of a perfect 5.

Casio WK200 76 Key Personal Keyboard Package (With Stand, Headphones and Power Supply) Review

Casio WK200 76 Key Personal Keyboard PackageI love this keyboard, have had it for just over a month and enjoy it a lot. We bought it for home use. It's our first electronic keyboard so I cannot compare it to others.

There are many useful and entertaining features such as the large selection of 570 tones (instruments), many of which sound quite authentic, plus you can use two at a time if you want. The metronome is helpful and has some different settings such as sounding with or without a bell on the first beat of each measure. There are so many other features that I doubt I'll use many of them. One of the main reasons I selected this keyboard is because it has 76 keys, giving it a wider range than most keyboards.

Being able to use headphones with a keyboard gives a family a lot of freedom from noise if you want to play something very loud, avoid waking others, or let a child practice at times where the practicing might disturb others.

On the down side, I wish the keyboard had a USB port. But the real reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I think it may have a defect. On day 31 of owning it, one of the keys started to make a clicking sound that I find disruptive and annoying when trying to concentrate on reading sheet music. Within a few days, two other keys started to behave the same. When very slowly and gently depressing the keys that click, I can feel resistance. I hope the problem doesn't spread to other keys. I called Casio and they said I have to pay shipping to and from their repair shop for them to look at it; as the keyboard is large and heavy, this would cost quite a lot. The place I bought it (Best Buy) said that they only cover the keyboard for 30 days and would not make an exception for 31 days. Fortunately, when using the headphones, the clicking noise is not audible.

Casio CTK-4000 ersonal Keyboard, 61-Key, with MP3 Connection, 10 Second Sampling, and Digital Effects Review

Casio CTK-4000 ersonal Keyboard, 61-Key, with MP3 Connection, 10 Second Sampling, and Digital EffectsIf you want to bang keys for a few days and then put this into the corner of your darkest closet this keyboard is probably fine. But, if you were planning on using this as a tool to learn to play a keyboard I would advise against it.After less than 4 months (Less than 40 hours total use) the keys are all starting to squeak and bend oddly.

If you're like me (and want something that is at least reliable and feels right even though you aren't a pro) I'd advise spending a bit more to get something that isn't so flimsy, as this is just annoying and I'll have to go replace it now.I have no idea what better products exist (I'm not a pro, as I stated), but I will seek one out.

Casio PX-120 Privia Digital Piano Review

Casio PX-120 Privia Digital PianoI traded in a PX-110 for a PX-120.I bought the Casio so I could practice piano using headphones. The most important features for me are piano action, piano sounds and metronome.I don't care much about the other features and sounds, although sometimes I use the recording feature to lay down a bass line I can solo over.

Pros:

* The action is significantly better in the PX120 as compared to the PX110. The loud clunking caused by the key return in the PX110 is gone in the PX120.Big difference!

* 128 note polyphony means no notes cut out when you hold down the damper pedal during long runs.Nice.

* Notes sustain longer when held and this sounds more realistic than the PX-110.

* The "classic" piano setting is better than the PX110.

* Metronome volume can be adjusted in the PX120.

Cons:

* The "modern" setting sounds too metallic, brittle and "twangy" for my taste, especially with headphones. So the "classic" sound is the only usable piano setting, in my opinion.

* The samples are problematic for 3 notes: the second D#, E and F above middle C.There is a noticeable metallic rattle or buzz when these notes are struck firmly.Very annoying, especially with headphones. How could Casio let the product go out the door with this flaw? The PX-320 has the same problem (I went back to the store and checked the floor models with headphones).

* The sound is a little bass-heavy in the PX-120.The PX-110 has a more balanced sound.

* The metronome could be set to "ding" in 5/4 time (every five beats) in the PX110, and this feature was removed in the PX120. The promotional literature for the PX120 is incorrect on this point. The PX120 metronome can be set to ding every 0,2,3,4 and 6 beats. Not a huge deal, but I don't see why they had to remove it, as 5/4 isn't that uncommon anymore.

* Still no 1/4" output jack, although I don't plan to do gigs with the PX120, so not a big deal to me.

The sound annoyances with the PX-120 are making it hard for me to decide between the PX-110 and the PX-120.Both models have flaws, so it's a matter of deciding which flaws with which to live.I'm really annoyed at Casio for the sample quality in the PX-120.If it wasn't for the problem with the 3 notes, I'd stick with the PX-120.

Casio WK-200 76-Key Personal Keyboard with MP3/Audio Connection and 570 Tones Review

Casio WK-200 76-Key Personal Keyboard with MP3/Audio Connection and 570 TonesI played piano on my family's old baby grand piano all my life and then I went off to college where I had no piano. I finally asked for one for my birthday and this is what my family chose for me. The sound is GREAT (the 5 main piano tones are very nice, I love 002), the keyboards have a very nice weight to them that makes them feel like a real piano (not something cheap and plasticy).

Some accessories I'd recommend for any buyers:

Headphones-- This keyboard can go really loud and if you're around others, you may want to consider headphones so you can enjoy all the sound :) If you use regular stereo-mini phones (like iPod jacks), you will need a Stereo Mini Jack (1/8") to Stereo Standard Plug (1/4").

Pedal-- This is an M-Audio keyboard so it works with just about any pedal but I really love this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00063678K

It has a very realistic feel to it; much better than those cheap plastic ones that you get from the manufacturerOver all a great keyboard, I couldn't be happier!

Casio WK-500 76-Key Personal Keyboard with MP3/Audio Connection, 670 Tones and Power SupplyAmazon listed the best price, the vendor was quick in shipping, the product is every bit as good as I could have expected, this was a good purchase.
The only reservation I would list for Amazon is that the time delay when I make an order is 3 to 4 days before they process the order for shipping, Amazon gives some time for customer review and cancellation of an order and I can understand the problem with folks canceling orders and the item is already shipped. With Amazon's experience as a seller I believe they have it right, I'm not the patient type but this wait has been worth it.
The WK-500 is better than I expected, I like the 76 key size, I had looked at the weighted key models but after using this one I'm glad I saved the money and I like the keyboard feel of the keys on the WK-500, they aren't weighted but not cheap feeling like I thought they would be as I have seen on some keyboards.I would say it has a nice action if you can call it that and has reasonable touch sensitive control settings although the default setting appears the best.Good overall sound, when I first got it I was slow to adapt to the different control setup than my smaller 66 keyboard but quickly became at home the Casio's setup.I also thought that the dull black color would be less attractive than my preference would be the higher luster silver type I kind of expected of a keyboard but again I was wrong as the black mantle look matches quite a bit of my other stereo and computer stuff and looks fine.
I'm not an expert on sound quality and keyboard features however I am impressed with both.I have had this about a month and have not used the advanced features like computer hookup etc. so I can't comment further.

Casio SA-75 Keyboard with Headset Microphone Review

Casio SA-75 Keyboard with Headset MicrophoneFor just a little more than a toy keyboard you can get something that really works. This keyboard can do up to four notes at once, so children can learn about both chords and melodies. The sound quality is better than I expected considering the price, and it run on nice cheap AA batteries that can be bought in bulk.Battery changing is easy.

The one downside is that the lowest volume level isn't all that low. It's impossible to just play this quitely at a volume level low enough so that only the one playing can hear. Also, it comes with a microphone, and when that is plugged in, the sound can be heard all over the house with the volume set to it's lowest level.

So, it's a nice way to introduce children to music, but it's a loud way because it doesn't allow a truly low volume setting.

Casio CTK-3000 Premium Pack with Power Supply, Keyboard Stand and Professional Closed Cup Stereo Headphones Review

Casio CTK-3000 Premium Pack with Power Supply, Keyboard Stand and Professional Closed Cup Stereo HeadphonesI really don't think I could have found a better keyboard at the price of the Casio CTK3000.After much research, I decided on this keyboard because of the number of keys and the fact that it came with a stowaway stand, headphones and charger. For me, an adult who is just learning piano, it was essential for me to have headphones so I wasn't disturbing everyone in the house. The keyboard is really easy to use.I didn't even read any of the instructions.I just plugged it in and started practicing.

The stand is a little difficult to adjust and it doesn't attach as securely to the stand as I would like it to, but it's not unstable or anything. The keyboard sort of just sits on top of the stand. This is not a problem for an adult, but if you're looking at getting this keyboard fora child, then you may want to take that into account. This keyboard also works great on a regular table, as long as you have one that is at an appropriate height for practicing.I use the keyboard on the tabletop more than I use it on the stand, but I'm glad I have the stand for those times that I do need to use it.

The keyboard also comes with a little bar that you insert into the back of the keyboard to hold your sheet music or lesson book. There is a groove at the top center of the keyboard to prevent the sheet music/book from slipping.I found that the other reviews I read and the product description didn't note that the keyboard does have a space to hold music.Of course that may be something that is just standard on keyboards, but, as a piano novice, I was not aware of this.

Bottom line, I think this keyboard is excellent quality for the price and will last a beginner quite a while.
